BC's Freshwater Fishing with Stacy Webb
Stacy Webb of the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is here to discuss the health of the province's freshwater fish stock and habitat. The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is a private, non-profit organization created to enhance and conserve BC's freshwater fisheries for public benefit.
BC is home to some of the finest freshwater fishing in the world. Each year, over $300,000 licensed anglers spend around $500M in BC, predominantly in rural and remote areas.
That being said, in 2018, the program ran a deficit of $700K, and all hands point towards the incredibly low cost of an annual fishing license, which is set by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, & Natural Resources.
This organization needs funding to maintain habitats, and to protect fish populations, including endangered fish species such as the white sturgeon.
