MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain Joan Isaacs
Joan Isaacs was elected as MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain in 2017. She held the portfolio of the Official Opposition Co-Critic for Health, with a focus on Seniors, before being appointed Assistant Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. In June of 2019 she was recognized with the Senior Advocacy award for her outstanding work as Official Opposition Critic for Seniors care.
Joan joined the podcast to talk about her role as MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain. Coming from a financial background, she has plenty to offer her community, focusing on business, youth, families, housing and homelessness, and mental health.
We talk about the opioid crisis, senior care issues, business taxes and the double MSP payments, the speculation tax in Coquitlam-Burke Mountain, and more.
Joan addresses some of her ‘red flags’ with the current NDP government in British Columbia. Specifically, she addressed the Community Benefit Agreement, which essentially prevents non-unionized companies from bidding on public projects. These unions were huge donors for the NDP during the election, but Joan argues that this new agreement is aggressively driving up the cost of projects in our Province, costing tax payers more money.
