Iconic Vancouver Olympic Cauldron Partially Shattered

One of Vancouver’s lasting images of the 2010 Winter Olympics will need repair after the northeast arm was damaged at the base.

It is not known whether the damage to the cauldron was intentional or by accident.

The Vancouver Convention Centre is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the landmark.

Coastal Front has reached out to the Vancouver Convention Centre to learn more about the situation. Each piece of glass on the Olympic Cauldron is custom-made.

The Vancouver Convention Centre is currently looking into the cost to replace the damaged section.

The Olympic Cauldron, located at Jack Poole Plaza in downtown Vancouver was originally lit by ice-hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky prior to the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

It is sometimes ceremoniously relit for other special occasions, like other Olympic Games.
